Logesys
Solutions
was started as a
partnership firm
by two people in
the year 2003 for
the purpose of handling
back office activity.
It's
first client was
Hutch ( a HongKong
Based company operating
in Karnataka as
a Telecommunication
Service Provider),
where a small back
office activity
was to be coordinated
betweens it's distributors,
shops and the activations
department with
respect to the customer
application forms.
A meticulous logistics
plan was laid out
and executed to
an extent wherein
elaborate MIS was
provided for each
stage of the activity.
This was further
consolidated over
the months to understand
volume trends, based
on which, the logistic
process and resource
management were
optimized in terms
of efficiency and
cost. During this
process, the crucial
insight obtained
was that, for effective
execution, measurement
and control of business
processes highly
customized software
was a vital component,
this realization
opened new doors
of opportunity for
the firm.
It
set out to test
the new waters of
customized software
development by conducting
a feasibility study,
result of which,
translated into
a business level
strategy to diversify
from a mere back
office service provider
to a full fledged
customized software
solutions provider.
Having identified
the domain for operation,
the firm undertook
a strategic audit
to evaluate not
only its inner strengths
but also the external
forces governing
the industry. This
was of great importance
to help translate
the business level
strategy into a
function level strategy
appropriate enough
to tackle the market
demands of the matured
phase of the software
industry life cycle.
At an implementation
level, it was decided
that the core team
would be augmented
with a band of industry
experts. This was
felt to increase
speed to market
and acceleration
down the learning
curve, both of which
would provide the
needed agility for
the matured phase
of the software
industry.
The
effort turned out
to be fruitful and
a diversified group
envisaged interest
in the venture.
The group's composition
had a horizontal
involvement spread
from full time partners
at one end and consultants
at the other and
a vertical skill
spread ranging from
Developers at the
bottom to Project
Manager at top.
The group dynamism
was worked out and
given an organizational
form as a
"CORE
TEAM" consisting
of 4 full time members
and 3 part time
members, each an
expert in his own
field with ample
work experience
in the areas of
software, business,
hardware, finance
and operations.
Having put in place
a rock solid team,
the firm moved on
to carry out a risk
assessment of the
venture. During
this exercise, the
team felt that it
would be acting
in a myopic manner
if it didn't consider
the scenario of
an economic downturn
just like that of
the dot-com melt-down
in 2000-2001. The
firm felt the need
for a business level
strategy that is
designed to handle
such turmoil. A
plausible option
considered was broadening
of the service horizon
to include maintenance,
service and upgrade
model to the existing
business model
This business
level strategy was
considered fit and
realizable due to
the fact that the
core team never
had to look beyond
itself for a faster
and effective implementation.
Having put in place
a composite service
model, the need
for a clear demarcation
between the two
service models was
understood from
the very beginning
to handle diversity
in terms of people
and service demands.
For effective implementation,
a special purpose
vehicle with sufficient
autonomy through
a divisional structure
was formed and christened
"LOGESYS
SERVICES".The
primary focus of
this division would
be to expand the
horizon of service
to include products
catering to the
area of maintenance,
service and upgrade.
These strategic
moves have evolved
the business model
of Logesys from
a mere back office
service provider,
up the value chain,
to the current state
of an integrated
service provider.This
new entity offers
enormous value and
opportunity to create
synergies between
a clients software,
hardware and process
management needs
thereby evolving'"
solutions
that matter".
